DESCRIPTION:In this two-day intensive workshop\, students will be introduced to the ethereal world of painting landscapes using pastels\, diving deep into the process of evoking the natural world. Led by award-winning plein-air painter Clark Mitchell\, this workshop will cover scene selection and constructing composition\, sketching\, dynamic underpaintings\, values\, the nuanced differences between painting and drawing\, and high contrast compositions. Each day will begin with Clark giving a fun and informative talk\, followed by a demonstration. After the demonstration\, each student will begin working with their chosen landscape\, with one-on-one guidance provided by Clark. The expectation should not be to come up with a "finished" painting\, but rather to practice the various aspects of creating a landscape while becoming familiar with the medium.
